Lovely words from walkers

‘We are still raving about your walk!’

Christine

‘We brought home lots of lovely memories of a wonderful holiday on Colonsay, made all the more special by our guided walk. Although we are seasoned hill-walkers, it is unlikely that we would have ventured to the incredible coastal vantage points that Lizzie expertly led us to. Our son lives with a Learning Disability and loves the outdoors. It’s uncommon to find someone so accommodating and understanding of people with disabilities, but Lizzie is a natural. She taught our son to navigate with a compass and engaged him with all sorts of natural wonders that we encountered on our walk. Finding the pellets of short-eared owls was his highlight. For my husband it was learning about the archaeological investigations near the croft. I was spell bound by the scenery. It was a delight, thank you for a great day out!’

Thank you so much for today, it was a really lovely experience. I think our daughter will be looking at lichens for years to come!

We had a spectacular walk over to Pig’s Paradise, with extraordinary views of the seabird colonies. Lizzie was a skilled and patient guide for both me and my eight year old daughter, full of information about Colonsay’s Vikings and wildlife. We saw and learned so much. Thank you!

We saw amazing bird cliffs, and Lizzie shared her interest in archaeology. I found myself looking at the landscape with a different perspective. What a creative and fun way to share the island with visitors. Thank you!

I joined Lizzie for three unforgettable walks, all far off the beaten track.

An evening walk to see the impressive bird cliffs. A day trip to the singing seals, passing forgotten settlements and beautiful deserted beaches. And a long day hike along dizzying cliffs, through heather and bog, past archaeological sites, with the most spectacular views imaginable. I went from one “wow” moment to the next — it was absolutely breathtaking.
Lizzie has an incredible knowledge of the island. She knows the names of plants and flowers, recognizes bird calls, and explains the archaeology and history of the area in a fascinating way.  It feels like walking with a living encyclopeadia.
There is space for meaningful conversation, but also for silence and simply taking in the beauty of nature. She is a wonderful person to spend time with.  Thank you for these unforgettable experiences, and for the delicious hot chocolate along the way!  I’ll take these beautiful memories home with me.

To really explore Colonsay and learn more about the island’s nature and history, a walk with Lizzie is incredibly valuable, she reveals the island’s hidden treasures!

As we wait to board the ferry, just wanted to say thank you so much for taking us out for the walk on Wednesday!  You helped us see the island in a totally different light, and it was all so interesting!  Chris has been peering at lichen everywhere we go!  Thanks so much again.
