The Wee Croft

We took on the tenancy of one of the community-owned crofts here in 2019 – the wee one, and threw ourselves into the challenge!

For us this is how it started..

And then it was this….

And this…

We’ve planted native broadleaf trees with the support of the Woodland Trust, and continue to plant each winter – from Colonsay seed, as well as that from Mull, Eigg and Shetland – figuring out what works, and what doesn’t, in our exposed salty location.  Our sturdy Polycrub – a fantastic design from Shetland – is productive for leafy greens, cucumbers & tomatoes, and a flock of laying hens produces eggs for local sale.  Soon to be Hebridean mutton & pork in the freezer for sale!

It’s a whole family effort – there’s always something to do!
